Good morning!
We’re so sorry we haven’t done a post for aaaaaages. We’ve had a busy couple of weeks but we promise not to leave it so long in future! Our review (as promised) today is on Monkey Puzzle by Julia Donaldson. We got this book as part of our haul from The Book People and it did make us smile.
This story is about a monkey who has lost his mum. He has a kind offer of help from Butterfly, who just keeps getting it wrong!
Illustrations: This book has so many bright colours in it, it really peaks children’s interest! Every time you look at the pages, you spot something else; a little bug on the tree, ants on the floor. Monkey and Butterfly also have very expressive faces which we liked very much!
Story: You do have to laugh at how much Butterfly can get mixed up! It’s very clever writing and introduces children to different animals than what you would see in a traditional children’s book. It’s written in Julia Donaldson’s trademark style and flows beautifully. You could really feel Monkey’s exasperation with Butterfly! Overall, we really enjoyed it. Although mummy Beebop did have to cover up the picture of the spider as she is very, very scared of spiders!
Beebop’s score: 4/5
Monkey puzzle is one of our favourite books to read (mostly mine ☺) , we read this book to Libby whilst she was on the inside before she was born and now she loves listening to the funny voices of the characters and the pictures are quite cute too. We love it!!
